Dave Edwards and The Look/The Dave Edwards Band: News

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - December 25, 2013

The Belle Islanders on iTunes - August 7, 2013

Here is the iTunes link for the new CD ... " Nothing's Gonna Stop Us " ... by Detroit Roots/Reggae band ... " The Belle Islanders " ... https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/nothings-gonna-stop-us/id685347771 just released today!!!

THE BELLE ISLANDERS TO RELEASE 2ND CD THIS WEEKEND! - July 31, 2013

THE BELLE ISLANDERS
Dave Edwards: lead & background vocals, electric & acoustic guitars
Bob Monteleone: lead & background vocals, electric & acoustic guitars, slide, keyboards, bass & percussion
Mitch Purdy: drums & percussion
Jim Megerian: electric bass, background vocals & lead vocals on "It's Too Hot"
April Monteleone: background vocals & lead vocals on "To Make You Feel My Love"

New full length CD entitled
NOTHING’S GONNA STOP US
Due August 2nd, 2013!

When it was time to follow up the last Belle Islanders record, their self-titled reggae debut – everyone was ready and eager to put their twist on the next batch of some of their favorite songs – originals and covers.

Recording sessions got serious at the top of 2013 – with the recordings of the Bobby Darin classic “Dream Lover”, a new version of The Look’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us (Are You With Me Tonight)” and the biting commentary of heroin addiction and prison life “Kickin’ In The Joint”. From there, everyone buckled in – Bassist Jim Megerian took the lead vocals on “It’s Too Hot” (which is the song of the summer!), April Monteleone makes her Belle Islanders lead vocal debut with a sultry take on Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love”! Just as it was looking like a finished EP – here comes Dave Edwards delivering another original “It’s Gonna Be
Alright” and the classic Bobby Bloom song “Montego Bay”. Then, Bob delivered the tender “Try One More Time” complete with Stax style horns and steady, funky beat.
Together the band went for Jimmy Cliff’s “You Can Make It If You Really Want” after drummer Mitch Purdy saw Mr. Cliff on a vacation early this year.
NOTHING’S GONNA STOP US closes with Cali-Jam – a live jam that the band recorded at Callahan’s Music Hall in 2011. It is a fitting closing reminder what a killer groove these guys can make, shake and leave full baked anytime!

The Belle Islanders started as a recording project featuring 3 members of the legendary Detroit (and world renown) reggae group Black Market combined with the well-known throaty soulful vocal prowess of Dave Edwards of The Look (“We’re Gonna Rock”) in late 2010.

The core was inspired by a 1970’s reggae compilation entitled
“FEELIN’ HIGH”.
Dave & producer/musician Bob Monteleone decided to lay down their own versions of some of their favorite songs from this obscure vinyl – then they decided to add originals to the mix along with a steamy rendition of the Texas Tornadoes' "Who Were You Thinking Of?"

The idea then and now was to record reggae music with the aesthetic of the early-to mid 1970’s while trying to (but not always) bypass “synth’s” & drum machines.
They wanted to make organic, rootsy, soulful reggae music – which had developed into a fresh sound of their own.

The Belle Islanders sound is a mix of Reggae, Caribbean, Funk, Beach Music, Soul, Ska & Pop that rocks ya and eases your soul.

Pop this disc into your player and come take a ride with us.

Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us!

2012 – Where did you go?
What a year for all of us.

LET ME SAY IT IN ONE WORD: GRATEFUL.

Looking back at 2012 – All of us here in the Dave Edwards bubble are grateful for the many wonderful memories of performing live in this state’s lounges, clubs & festivals. We have made some new fans and many more friends for life.

We are grateful for, at a time when the band needed a double shot in the arm, to have had former Forbes Brother, Jill Jack, Barbara Payton, Broken Toys guitarist JC WHITELAW to step in for most of this year. JC was great for The Look – he was funny, engaging and versatile. He was a terrific on stage foil for Dave – an excellent performer. We thank him for his time and efforts – we share some battle scars. Merry Christmas Brother.

We are grateful for BOB MONTELEONE who is talented beyond words and continues to help Dave translate his music to the world. You want hear this guy play – wait until you hear him on our new CD THE RED LIGHT IS ON … Thank you Bobby – for everything always. Bob and his wife April (honorary members of The Dave Edwards Band) have a new Christmas cd out called It's Christmas Time! Get it now - when you buy our new one too! :)

We are grateful for JIM MEGERIAN on the bass. Consistent and diverse – from Rock to Reggae and from Funk to Motown – his style is a significant contribution to an incredible band. Thank you Jim.

GRATEFUL – yes, even for Old Rus – RUSTY RUSSUM on drums. Rusty has played terrifically this year. Keeping the beat steady and sure. Knocking back a few toasts during the evening and all in all – bringing the heat. We love you Rusty.

GRATEFUL for Mr DAVE MAZZERA who is joining up with the band now. Accomplished and thorough – his slide playing is TOP DRAWER. And what a nice guy. When you see him – say hello.

DAVE EDWARDS – 40 YEARS IN – knows he has surrounded himself with dedicated guys who want to find the best inside themselves EVERY NIGHT he hits the stage. Believe me, there is no one more in awe of his blessings than Dave! Keep on keeping on.

Special THANK YOU to our pal in Los Angeles TONY LAKE UGVAL who continues to add his mixing and mastering talents to our records and put together our music videos. Tony is 80% done with our new video ROCK N ROLL FEVER which we will launch nationally in January of 2013. Grateful – you bet.

We are most grateful to you guys for coming to the shows, participating on Facebook, etc. We are lucky to have you. Dave and the band would be a tree falling in the forest without you. THANK YOU.
(Though we would make a sound – probably a very large sound).

We hope to see you on Saturday night. Other than our New Years Eve performance in Grand Haven, MI – this might be the last time until February.
We have put together a really great show for this weekend and we can’t wait to share it.

GOD BLESS YOU – HAPPY HOLIDAYS – SEE YOU SOON!

Just a reminder... - April 1, 2012

April 1st 2012......NEW DAVE EDWARDS BAND MUSIC HAS BEEN RELEASED!!

Entitled PICKIN’ SINGLES, the music, a celebration of rock and roll, has been uploaded into iTunes and will be available at the shows soon. The project came about when Dave, manager Jeff Amato & producer Bob Monteleone began looking for new material to record. Dave, who has a ton of songs that have never been released, began stripping the songs down to very simple, direct arrangements. Experimenting with a core band of acoustic guitars, stand up bass, drums and then enhancing them with mandolin and accordion, and for the first time, pedal steel. The songs developed a timeless personality & energy that became a direction none of us had thought to look to before. The results include a raucous take on the Frankie Miller classic “Be Good To Yourself”, the almost rockabilly “I’m Wonderin’” (which is a distinctive highlight in the current stage show), the Buddy Holly like “Rock N Roll Fever”, the tex-mex meets Detroit muscle of “I Just Don’t Know What To Do (About You)”. For good measure there is the testifying track “I Found Love” to close the release, of which the accompanying music video had been seen nationally on the COOL MUSIC NETWORK (http://thecooltv.com) which is a true music video network as well as 15,000 fast food restaurants including the entire Wendy’s chain!

What might be the most significant cut on PICKIN SINGLES is the haunting remake of The Look’s “Can’t Think Right” from their very first album all those years ago. The remodeled version is the second take and features Larry LeBeck from the Orbitsuns on pedal steel. It’s about as intimate a performance as you can get and 30 years later, it’s a new song to many!

Other players on the new record include Jimmie Bones from the Twisted Brown Trucker Band & The Howling Diablo’s, Mark Iannice from Jill Jack, Mitch Purdy from the Belle Islanders and the lovely Mrs. April Monteleone on harmony vocals. The members of Dave’s live band: Rusty Russum, Lou Abraham & James Megerian play on “Be Good” and the rhythm section for the rest of the CD are Ken Pesick & Myles Rutledge. We hope you enjoy the new music as much as we enjoyed creating it......

Where we are at! - February 14, 2012

Hello Friends!

Well... 2012 is off to a cage rattlin' start with 4 shows under our belt so far with new guitarist JC Whitelaw.

Early this year, Lou Abraham amicably left to work with The Teen Angels. So, to keep the band in shape while we try to figure what we want to be when we grow up - our good friend JC Whitelaw offered his services.

The band - to the common eye and ear - may not seem much different but there has been a new fresh energy that wasn't necessarily missing but is nice to have none the less.
We have no real idea how long this run will last - so, its a great time to get out and see a show.

Everyone on stage is having a good time - and - there have already been 2 nights in this configuration that have brought out the best in Dave - who - quite frankly - is never less than great anyway. Just watch the hair on your arms and you'll know what I mean.

We are looking at many projects for 2012 - here's a loose look of what we are planning - if all goes our way:
1.) Some new Belle Islanders recordings... and hopefully a new release soon, 2.) Dave has begun working on Pickin Singles volume 2 - which will be entirely original songs...
(Of course now that I have said that - it won't be)

and then there is a 3rd project yet to be defined that we hope develops by summertime.

Here is what I know:
We had a great year in 2011. The success of the I Found Love video continues to grow and we are fighting for & acting on every opportunity to grow awareness of Dave and his music.

We are working very hard on all aspects of our "thing" - trying to play great, writing well, grow our reputation and challenging each of us to reach inside and pull out every ounce of talent that we have - collectively and individually - every chance we get.

Friends, Let the world know - we are just getting started!

WIth love on this Valentines Day in 2012
The Dave Edwards Organization

Happy New Year! - January 3, 2012

Happy 2012 to all of you!

As we jump into the new year... with new activities coming and new shows and new music certainly on it's way too - we want to take a second and THANK YOU for an incredible 2011!

We are not an easy band to categorize and the different projects Dave did last year - The Belle Islanders & The Dave Edwards Band - only become successful if you enjoy them - AND THAT HAS DEFINITELY BEEN THE CASE!

This year I'm sure will find us at least starting back to basics - but you never know where that journey will go...

When the Lone Survivor record was handed in and ready to be mastered, Dave played me "Written All Over Your Face". What a song! I couldn't get over it and it had to be recorded - and Thanks to Bee, Bob, Bones and Harmonie Park Studios - we got a hot one!
When we were going over material for what became Pickin' Singles, I heard "I'm Wonderin'" for the first time - another OMG moment. That song is another one - it just rocks away, so solid. And so much fun to play every night.
Everything on the "new" CD is like that for me - It's magic to hear what it was and then to hear what it ENDS up being. Dave is proud of every thing he has done - and Pickin' Singles is certainly a highlight of his career and continuation of his artistry!

What's coming next? I don't think we know yet - for sure. There looks to be a second Belle Islanders CD to be recorded. We haven't talked much about Dave's next solo project - he always has ideas and I always have ideas and somewhere between the two of us - we try and get it right.

The nice thing about "We're Gonna Rock" & even "You Can't Sit Down" is that as BIG to their time that they were - YOU have always allowed Dave to move past nostalgia by supporting his new music both on stage & on record.

WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THIS AND THANK YOU!

So, in closing - thanks for reading! THANKS for being there. Thanks for coming out night after night.
Thanks for letting us share the music with you!

Best,
Jeff Amato
